How to Make Your App Look Like Linear, Vercel, or Notion

"Make it look like Linear" might be the most common design request in vibe coding. Here's what those products have in common, and how to get the look with a free skill.

Ask any vibe coder what they want their app to look like and there's a good chance you'll hear one of three names: Linear, Vercel, or Notion. These products set the standard for modern SaaS design, and people type "make it look like Linear" into AI tools every day.

The results are usually close but not quite there. Here's what makes that style work, so you can get it right.

What these products have in common

Look closely at Linear, Vercel, and Notion and you'll notice they share a lot of DNA:

A restrained palette. Mostly neutrals, with one accent color used sparingly. Linear leans on dark greys with a purple accent. Vercel is famously black and white. Notion is warm off-white with very little color at all.

Tight, confident typography. A clean sans-serif, a clear size hierarchy, and slightly tighter letter spacing on headings. Nothing decorative.

Subtle borders over heavy shadows. Cards and panels are defined by thin, low-contrast borders instead of big drop shadows. It feels crisp and precise.

Generous space. Lots of breathing room between sections and inside components. Nothing feels crammed. More on spacing →

Small, deliberate details. Keyboard shortcut hints, subtle hover states, smooth but quick transitions. The polish lives in tiny things.

That's the formula: a hundred small decisions, all pointing the same direction.

Why AI tools miss it

When you ask for "Linear style design," most AI tools grab the surface: a dark background and a purple button. Then they fall back on their usual defaults for everything else. Too many colors. Heavy shadows. Default spacing. Rounded corners that don't match.

The result is a product that kind of reminds you of Linear from across the room and looks generic up close. Getting the Vercel design style or a Notion style UI right comes down to consistency across every component, and that's exactly where AI tools drift.

How to get it right

You need specific rules: the exact neutral palette, a single accent color, the type scale, the border treatment, the spacing system, and the hover states. Applied the same way on every screen.

Two free skills in the Skills UI library are built for this.

Modern SaaS captures the Linear, Vercel, and Notion look directly: clean, trustworthy, and precise. It's the go-to for any modern SaaS design, from dashboards to marketing sites.

Clean goes for that well-funded startup feel, uncluttered and well-organized. Great for landing pages and simple tools where you want to look established on day one.

Both are free. Download one, drop it into your AI tool, and every screen comes out with the same restrained, polished look these products are known for. Your startup website design stops looking like a template and starts looking like the products your users already trust. SaaS landing page guide →
