The Vibe

Hand Drawn makes your site look sketched, cut and taped together by a real person. Wobbly ink outlines, paper grain, masking tape, torn edges, marker underlines and handwritten type. Pick from three flavors: warm Sketchbook Collage, bright Cut-Paper Pop, or minimal Ink Doodle.

About the Style

What is hand-drawn web design?

Hand-drawn web design makes a site look sketched, cut and taped together by a person: wobbly ink outlines instead of perfect boxes, paper grain, masking tape and torn edges, hatched and offset shadows, marker underlines, handwritten type and slightly misregistered color blocks. It draws on zines, sketchbooks, collage posters and children's book art, and this naive style is one of the strongest trends of 2026 as a reaction to polished, generic AI output. It suits portfolios, personal brands, creative studios, indie products, journaling, education and kids' products. It includes a toned-down app mode for dashboards, but it is not right for corporate or high-tech brands.

Best For / Avoid If

+ Best For
+Portfolios and personal brands
+Creative studios and indie products
+Journaling, education and kids' products
+Landing pages that need to stand out from generic AI-built sites
+Community, events and creator tools
× Avoid If
×Your brand needs to feel corporate, clinical or high-tech
×You're building a dense data tool with heavy tables (though App mode tones it down for dashboards)
×Your audience expects sleek and polished above everything else

Design Philosophy

Controlled imperfection

Lines wobble, boxes tilt and shapes overshoot their corners. Reading text, alignment and usability stay solid underneath.

One pen for everything

Every outline, icon and doodle shares the same stroke weight. That consistency is what makes the page feel drawn by one hand.

Paper you can almost touch

Grain, tape, torn color bands and offset shadows give every surface a physical feel. Color blocks slip slightly off their outlines, like a screen print that moved.

Use With Claude / Cursor

Claude
01Click 'Customize', then go to 'Skills'
02Go to 'Create Skills' and upload the skill.md file
03Put the design.md file in your project's knowledge base
04Mention the skill name as you build, and Claude applies it automatically
Cursor
01Place SKILL.md and DESIGN.md in your repo root
02Open .cursor/rules and add @SKILL.md @DESIGN.md
03Restart Cursor for the rules to apply
04Build as usual and mention the skill name when you want it applied
PRO TIP

Before building with Claude Code, drop SKILL.md and DESIGN.md into Claude Design first. Use it to generate mockups and nail the visual direction. Then hand those references to Claude Code. It makes a big difference in the final output.

Watch Out For

! WARNING
Random wobble
Mixed stroke weights and five fonts read as messy. Keep one pen, one palette and two type families.
! WARNING
Handwriting in long paragraphs
Save hand fonts for headlines, labels and annotations. Body text stays in a calm, readable face.
! WARNING
Rotated text blocks
Tilt the decorations and keep reading text straight. Interactive elements stay within a single degree.
! WARNING
Lazy states
Show hover, pressed, selected, disabled and error for every component. Hand-drawn kits shine in the details.
